Ticagrelor is a direct-acting, reversibly binding P2Y12 receptor antagonist that inhibits adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-mediated platelet aggregation. Unlike clopidogrel, it does not require hepatic activation, offering faster onset, greater potency, and consistent efficacy across CYP2C19 phenotypes. Indicated, co-administered with aspirin, for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in adults with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) or a history of myocardial infarction at high risk of recurrent atherothrombotic events.
